Terbang Duitku Terbang

Terlalu keremajaan. Walaupun i'm not a girl not yet a woman, tapi majalah yang terlalu remaja tidak berapa saya minat.

Itupun terkulat-kulat jugak tengok buku-buku berkaitan kewangan tentang cara mahu jadi kaya.

Satu kape. Orang kuale! ;) Novel garfik ni karya nur azmi, seorang pelukis catan gaya post naive.(err..gaya post naive ni ekceli mcm mana ar?). Saya habiskan dalam masa satu setengah jam jer membacanya. Menarik...lawa lukisan-lukisan kartunnya. Kalo berkaler lagi lawooo...tapi mungkin reganya akan menjadi 88 juta kali dari harga asal :p Haa.. incet nur azmi, teman dah nolong promote karya mike nih, ape lagi balik kuale nanti blanje teman makan laksa kat Sungai Perok tu,ngeh ngeh!

Why are we Malaysia not equal to Singapore, some hurtful truths:-

When we have to pay RM100 million for an abandoned bridge project.

When thousand of Malaysian motorists have to brace the jam, the fume, the carbon monoxide, and at the expense of the quality family time, to crawl through the causeway everyday to "cari makan".

When thousand of kids from Johor wake up in the wee hours of the morning to catch their school bus to Singapore for their quality education.

When they have one of the highest property ownership in the world.

When they are so many abandoned shopping complexes in Johor, e.g. Sun City, Pacific Mall, Lot 1, Kemayan City, etc.

When there is a railway line from Tg Pelepas to Senai in Johor, built at a cost of many millions but has never been used for at least the last four years.

When their politicians are ex-Malaysians, e.g. Irene Ng (ex-journalist), Khaw Boon Wan (Minister of Health) and Lee Bee Wah (ex-rubber taper daughter from Rumbai, Melaka).

When their per capita spending power is 5X per capita of an average Malaysian.

When their crime rates are negligible when compared to Johor Baru.

When the biggest shopping complex in Johor, City Square is majority owned by Temasek, an investment arm of Singapore.

When Singapore says cheap, cheap, cheap (like a bird) shopping in Johor.

When Singapore has the most efficient and world class airport, MRT and port system.

When Singapore is ranked so highly in the transparency index as compared to Malaysia.

When Singapore is ranked as the most business friendly place.

When SGD1= RM2.28.

When our public transportation is a real poor cousin of SBS and MRT.

When our professionals are attracted to Singapore in droves.

When our minister sits comfortably and not bringing in the much needed foreign investment to spur growth.

When our best brains in Malaysia are offered scholarship and subsequent citizenship to be Singaporeans.

When Malaysia stop the crux mentality and be more transparent with the award of the bridge, CIQ, other projects etc, without the due process of tender.

When as a wee nation, they are expanding their external economy at breakneck speed by strategic acquisitions.

When as a tiny nation, their foreign reserve is manifold of Malaysia.

When as a backward backyard with no natural resources, Singapore has made it to be one of the most developed nations in one generation.

The list goes on and I weep for Malaysia, not meant as a sarcasm but really as a matter of reality.

Malaysia's first astronaut will be chosen from a shortlist……….Malaysian astronaut will carry his nation's cuisine on the space……….

Isn't it cool? For a cool US$25 millions, we get to send one person to joyride with the Russians, dressed in batik and drink teh tarik in space!

What a wonderful way to spend your hard earned tax dollars. Bet Malaysia looks wonderful from the space but for the investment, what have we achieved?

Are we the first?
Did we build the spacecraft?
Did we contribute in any way to the space program except funding it?
Does Malaysia actually benefit from it?
Is there any thing we learnt that can be of use to you and me?

When the hardcore poor are surviving on snails and wild vegetation; the government is going to spend US$25 millions to send somebody to space to eat roti canai and drink teh tarik.

Is this a joke?

Another sheer waste of public fund! What is the aim? Use the money to train more doctors which is more sensible!

Just wonder that the resources and money would be better spent improving the quality of drinking, drainage system on par with the West.

Yes, this is a sheer waste of money. We have become crazy with this Malaysia Boleh slogan. There is nothing to crow about with the capability of climbing the highest mountain, swimming across the cannel, having the longest roti canai, etc.

Let me know what should we do now?

In general, our "leaders" (I don't recognize them as my leaders) are wasting our time and placing Malaysia to great risk in term of global competitiveness.

They are treating Malaysia as "own firm" and both previous leaders, current leaders and future leaders are all talking nonsense and doing "shit" for the sake of their own and cronies. What they have done for us so far? Our daily life has been burdened with tonnage of pressure day after day - I think 2020 will be tougher.

If our "leaders" are capable and having the intention to bring prosperity to plebeian and not their own, 50 years are more than enough!

Malaysia, a country with such an abundance resources should do better than Singapore but we are now far behind Singapore.

Somebody is saying Pak Lah should step down as prime minister but for me who become prime minister is not so important unless the prime minister is come from another parties. As long as BN people become prime minister, the results will be the same. Even another 100 years will still be the same.

We got to denial the 2/3 majority of BN in this coming election and we need a new government in another 10 years or earlier.

Kid, we can't afford to waste our time further, we must kick BN out because we "love" Malaysia.

It is better that you leave Malaysia. This country is full of crap. Everything is crap here. There is racism and lots of red tape bureaucracy. Malaysia don't practise meritocracy.

If a malay is not even capable in comparison with a Chinese or Indian, he will still get all the goodies and left the shit to the other races. I advise the government not to help the stupid malays but to give equal rights to everyone and also judge a person based on his merits, and not his background or race.

If the government continues to help those incapable malays and not cutting those red tapes, I think Malaysia will not meet its 2020 vision. Also my advise to those malays: To the Hell with you!!!

There has been a survey done to investigate whether Chinese, Indians and Malays are hardworking. They found out that malays are the ones to be lazy. Lazier than Chinese and Indians. They do not have the motivation to strive harder.

Most of Malaysia's success come from the hard work of other races while the malays just reaped the fruits that the Chinese and Indians sowed. The Malaysia government know about this fact and that is how they implemented to protect those malays from lagging behind the other races.

If you agreed with what I had said, you know that this is making sense. However if you disagree on my views, here is 2 possibilities:

(1) you are a malay that is receiving help from the government and hence you don't make any contribution to the society.

(2) you are a corrupted, biased person that is easily influenced, just like our police force. Think about it.

I left Malaysia in search of a better life where I am free to think and do as I please, where nobody tells me what to think and do. I am a free spirited individual.

I have relatives and friends who now live in the United States, UK, New Zealand, Holland, Canada, and Australia - and call these places home.

If I were in your position, with all the racial discrimination back home in terms of places in the country tertiary education institutions, scholarships etc, I would be happy to pack up my bags and leave like some have done - like I and others like me, have done although for different reasons.

Life is more than just having a good job - and is not to be measured in terms of dollars and cents alone. I am not prepared to live a lie and say that I am happy when I am not.

We are among the fortunate in that we are able to exercise our freedom of choice. Others do not know what they are missing.

Freedom of speech is very important and should be upheld by every single individual be it in Malaysia or abroad. The Malaysia public has not reached the stage of speaking out their views and minds at the moment, but we have to make drastic changes for the benefit of all regardless of race and religion.

I am left speechless that now after 48 years of independence, Malaysians are still talking about the Malays, Indians and Chinese race and calling each other names, and telling each other to leave Malaysia if they don't like it.

No matter what topic writes, the posting still leads back to us versus them, Malays versus Indians or Chinese, or vice versa. Please realise that not all malays share the views expressed and not all Indians or Chinese share the same views.

Maybe some have been disappointed or rejected are using this board to vent their anger and in doing so fan the fire or racial hatred. I really object when posters say the Malays, the Indians, the Chinese, etc. This is brushing the whole race with the same slur just because of the acts of a few.

I believe that the better 'educated' people are, the lesser bigot they are. Trust the professional malays (the ones who read widely). The ones you meet or hear about are perhaps 'trained' to be professionals and not educated - they perhaps have not even touched a book from the day that they graduated.

So, perhaps you should not include them in the same category as what we have here at this forum. See, let us encourage them, the others, to get exposed to the 'elements' in the real global society and then perhaps they would turn around to create a better nation for Malaysians.

I believe the first thing that should be changed is the ridiculous race column in our forms. The day we stop filling up the form as Malay, Indian, or Chinese and etc……….we will be truly Malaysians.

Now you know the reason I left Malaysia. Every race has a place in Malaysia. No Malaysian should feel he/she is a second class citizen. Just because the NEP provide privileges to the malays does not make the malays first class citizens. Remember this is just a privilege, not a right.

The right is to vote, own land, make money, live a peaceful life, do business and buy properties. Nobody can take that away from the citizens.

When you talk about emigration, there is more to it than just economics - and affirmative action policies.

It is our choice - and we are happy for it.

We still have roots back in Malaysia. We are thankful that as a result of their discriminatory policies, we are leading happy and fruitful lives in countries like the United States - where we are free, and I mean free.

Racist. Racist. Racist……….(50 times)

Now almost 50 years of independence, we really should review the social contract because it has not served its purpose. Somewhere along the line, it got twisted further and a religious dimension was brought in.

This is because 3rd generation non-malays born and bred on this soil is considered 'pendatang' and second class citizens. Whereas recent Indonesian newcomers and Pakistani husbands to malays enjoy better privileges.

Now this agenda is religiously skewed and that is how the Indonesians and the Pakistanis are enjoying better privileges at the expense of 3rd or 4th generation non-malay Malaysians.

This also probably explains why the Orang Asli still do not fully enjoy the privileges of the social agenda.

The NEP has only served a few. Its original motives were noble because weather you or I agree malays do need a lot of encouragement but not the sort that have been getting as opposed to the ones in Singapore.

In the 1970s in Singapore, O and A levels pass marks for Malays: 28%, Indians: 65%, Chinese: 75%, others: 50%.

This NEP discrimination only made the non-malays smarter and the malays more dumb. Pass mark for Singapore malays in state: 50%.

Singapore allow them to leave Singapore any time they want but they choose to stay because their kids are properly educate, got better opportunities, housing and health care……….And they are truly loyal to Singapore.

I would like to add further to what has mentioned.

(1) Singapore's first president was a malay. The republic has also had two Indian presidents including the present one.

(2) The republic Singapore has had two Indian deputy prime ministers including the current one.

(3) It has had two Indian foreign ministers.

(4) The country's present minister for education is an Indian.

(5) A former police chief (equivalent to Inspector-General of Police) was, yes, you guessed it, an Indian.

Can we ever expect such important government positions in Malaysia to be occupied by those representing the minority communities in Malaysia? I am afraid the minorities here can only dream.

As I said, the racial disharmony in Malaysia is not the cause of Chinese, Indians or Malays.

The fault and blame lies squarely and directly on Umno and Umno Youth leaderships, and their barrel of race-based politics and policies.

Are the malays so impoverished in intellect and ability that they need handouts to survive?

The alternative already exists - the day the malays rely on themselves, not Umno, is the day they write their own destiny.

Protection for the malays means isolation for the malays. As long as they ask for more protection, they will be isolated from the progress of the world.

In the end, they will be hiding in caves like the Taliban. Nowhere to go because of inadequate skills, or skills that are not useful to the society and humankind at large.

Income and employment statistics show the Chinese are still ahead of other races but nowhere near pre-NEP levels.

The aids and opportunities provided under the NEP, if given to non-malays would propel them sky high in half the period.

The hardship makes us better, stronger and wiser. Hence we always try our best for the better of our next generation.

If you malays don't like it here, then go back to Sumatra, Jawa, or wherever your ancestors came from and give this land back to its rightful master, the Orang Asli!

The history books are full of lies. Not only on the contributions of other races but their content on other religions also has to be thoroughly examined.

Many a time my relatives have to de-learn their kids on the rubbish they are taught in schools. This same rubbish is then used at government seminars to belittle other religions. That is a fact. Under Pak Lah (who supports death for apostasy) - it has increased.

Anyway, Malaysia history books have always been like that - a damn joke. Academicians are too comfy in their ivory towers to butt with the racist politicians who lobbied for such appalling history re-writing.

Then again, how many academicians in Malaysia actually have that much integrity?

Like this is new! The malays are so eager to achieve their 'ketuanan' status they can do anything! Lying and falsehood is no problem as they have developed such a thick face over the years. Just living on lies and falsehood is a way of life now!

The sad part of it all is that this latest development is part of the many developments currently being practised to deny the important roles of the Chinese and Indians in the development of this country to what it is today.

It is not a coincidence that the state of development of countries around in this region is directly proportional to the percentage of Chinese populations - Thailand, Philippine, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia.

Fortunately, the non-malays here are essentially non confrontational and let it be. Only grumble here and there so long as everybody can still earn a decent living.

The bad thing is, Malaysia is not using its full potential especially in this global environment and will lose out in the future. The meritocracy is a real joke. Already as far as I know, the local Malaysian Chinese are far behind Chinese from Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and now China. Very soon the malays won't have someone to rely on……….when the oil runs out.

I know because I was there when Chinese in these countries were equal in capabilities in the 70s and 80s in ICT etc. Continue neglecting the non-malays in areas of trade, education etc, will have profound implications in the years to come.

As far as I am concerned, I am already looking for overseas opportunities not local. If my money grows overseas - it is in line with the NEP. My money won't be counted so NEP can be achieved. Good for all. NEP is about percentage, not the quantum.

When globalisation comes about, I do predict that many local businesses will go global and not be limited by stupid local politics. That is when the effects of NEP will be telling on those who depended on it. Only the fittest survives.

After all why waste time here. Everything so difficult without delays and bribes. As far as I am concerned I don't give a damn about what they taught in the history books - It is not my history. I teach my children my version.

We, Chinaman come to Malaysia to make living. We work hard, work in the construction, toil in the sunlight, growing vegetables and fruits, to supply to all of Malaysians regardless of race.

Before we Chinaman come, malays don't even know how to eat vegetables. So we Chinaman have contributed so much to Malaysia. And we are here to defend this country from rotting. Rotting because the malays are not doing anything about it, except for asking money from government.

They vote the malay government in, so that they can get job from government. Their job in government is very simple. Traveling from one state hotel to another state hotel, talk cock, smoke, sit down, enjoy hotel food, don't do anything, basically being very unproductive. And still, they are very proud of themselves.

I think the history books should dedicate 1 chapter to Yap Ah Loy, for his vision in developing Kuala Lumpur. Malays just come in to Kuala Lumpur. They didn't build Kuala Lumpur.

You malays are very insecure……….very insecure.

Where is malays came from originally, could anyone remember? Correct me if I am wrong. Old malays are originally came from south China, the province now called Yunnan in China. Also merge from Sumatra, Jawa, Aceh, etc.

They are not bumis of Malaysia but immigrants like the others, only difference they came earlier. True bumis of the land are the Orang Asli.

Anyway you malays can't deny that others beside your "people" contributed to the development of this country. Calling others to stop complain also denied their rights as Malaysian citizens.

Or are you thinking that you are far more superior that this type of treatment is fair to us? The real fact is we never wished to be born here, it is unfortunate living in Malaysia and having people like you telling us that we are immigrants and have no rights in this country.

Now the question is why we need to defend this country if it is not our own? You think we are your slaves? Defend a country which we are treated as second class citizens? Is that what you are implying? Does that ring your bell why non-malays preferred not to join the armed forces?

The Portuguese, the Malays, the Japanese, the Indians, the Chinese, the British, the Arabs, had come and some had gone.

Don't blame others if you want to remain sleeping in the jungle. If not for these immigrants, Malaysia would still remain in the era of the cavemen. Cry your heart out, man!

I have no quarrel with one in this round. I agree with wholeheartedly that the history on Chin Peng is not only scanty but biased and one-sided.

For all his faults, Chin Peng was a true nationalist. He thought Malayan rather than Malay, Indian or Chinese, or in my case, Eurasian.

However he used the wrong approach, i.e. communism in his attempt to unite the country. The British were able to foil his fight for independence for the country by playing the divide and rule card, showing his move as a Chinese one and against the malays.

Umno copied the British tactic of divide and rule which has continued to this day and is the basis of the BN power structure.

But as I explained in the posting, what the retarded fellows are doing is futile, as no one can really distort history and remain credible for long.

If the overwhelming might of the western media cannot hide their past massive slaughter of third world peoples, what can these pathetic morons do? Especially with the birth of the Internet and the increasing ability of people to reason out things?

Indeed, any student who takes a peep into such "history" will no doubt laugh his head off, and I am not talking about five years old. You might ask, then why did the minister says the book is based on facts? Answer: what else can he say?

I am certain that the moment the book was written, the writers themselves already knew they were lying. Such is the insistent power of truth.

It is pretty disheartening to see contributions from the non-malays belittled. Look at the sports, economics, arts etc - non-malays contributions are often neglected. See Tan Sri Robert Kouk, Sir Jimmy Choo, Datuk Michelle Yeoh, etc - the world recognise them.

Patriotism comes form a sense of identity and belonging to the country. Their fundamental role in achieving the independence, the development of Malaysia today, are often overlooked. Furthermore, they are disadvantaged in everything which requires government intervention. Ethno schools, education grants, buying of houses, businesses, etc.

We have more Indonesians receiving PR status as oppose to other races. The world golf champion Vijay Singh ironically was denied PR status.

Malaysia has only a population of above 23 million people. Shanghai in itself is almost equivalent to the whole of Malaysia inhabitants. Are we to focus on which race is the "Jaguh Kampung" to the detriment of the whole of Malaysia while other nations are competing against nations?

Rules, policies, laws etc - to hamper the progress of other races for the benefit of one cannot be applied internationally.

People say the "history is written by those who win the war" in this case Malaysia history - kids today are not stupid as we think, there is this funny thing called the Internet, just type "malay" - you will be able to find out were the malay people came from and how there are related to other races in the world which includes Indian and Chinese civilization.

Indians were here long before any malays were in this land, for a fact - Chadi in Kedah was build by Indian civilisation, no in-depth researches was ever done on this place, on the site - I wonder why?

Malay, Indian or Chinese, what we need to focus is how to be come like other develop country. Peace……….

The BN-led government has been providing crutches to so many crippling GLCs for the past 20 odd years: Renong, Proton, PLUS, Perwaja (which is total failure), MAS……….and perhaps many more (I do not have so many inside scoops), what next?

So do we need these GLCs for Malaysia economy? Yes and no.

-Yes, because if we want to stay afloat and let everyone has access to quality of life, then get those GLCs running, get the projects going, so employment can be managed and probably social problems such as poverties, drugs, crimes, can be contained. BN will wins election in election out, as long the people are happy.

That perhaps you would like to say, is the "sorry state" of our Malaysian voters. That is why BN wins election in election out.

-No, because if this situation continues where we sit safely in our comfort zone, we will eventually lose out in many aspects, to many at-present-not-yet as developed as Malaysia countries.

The people must unite and sit out these short economic pains, if really those GLCs is in irrevocably bad shape and need to be close down. As in a Chinese saying, "Short term pain is better than long term pain."

I would add lastly that the "sins" of the ruling government are aplenty: transparency and accountability (the lack of them), lack of political will (this administration) or too much of it (the last administration), corruption and blatant cronyism.

Proton, MAS and most of our GLCs are all the same: totally no accountability, seriously lacking focus, plenty of abuses of power, most of its executives and bosess absolutely have no competence in running a company, greedy, doing things beyond their means, badly corrupted, etc.

I am extremely sad the tax money I paid to government every month is being spent in such manners. Why should we pay the taxes at all if our money is not put into good use? Where is the justice?

If Malaysians can be 50% as smart and clean as how the Singaporeans run their country, Malaysia will be a heaven for its people!

The only reason Proton or other GLCs with huge losses could carry on business is because of the financial support from the government.

Taxpayers monies are wasted on one bad investment after another. The government is totally irresponsible by scarifying interest of future generations. Someone has to pay the debts, if not this generation, it will be the next.

It seems to me you malay are one of the reasons - this country is in suck shambles. Your lame argument only succeeds in cementing Malaysia third world mentality. This country does not belong to any one race as much as you feel it does. Independence was fought and won by everyone irrespective of color or creed.

You are not even bothering to attempt to make a point. Your answer to every suck in this country would be: "Ah, this is Malaysia, eh. What you expect?"

And now to bring myself to your depths to argue your point with you: You are a dumb ass. If people listened you - would have doomed this country to another 50 years of third world attitude and stupidity.

Firstly, thank you so much for allowing us to live and flourish in your wonderful country. I got a better suggestion……….why don't you get the suck out of Malaysia, go try living and working in Singapore where malays are the minority, and see how far you get. It will probably be the same job as you'd be able to get here……….labour.

Bottom line is - the Malaysia economy needs the non-malay races to progress……….malays need us to give them jobs - you need us to provide you with a paycheck and give you a sense of purpose. At the same time here, you need the government's help to protect you from us.

Run scared my friend, because we don't need any subsidies - we are perfectly capable of showing up to work on time.

Yup! At the end of the day, laws are man-made, not heavenly-made. Who made them? As you said it, by the people with power, the people we voted and trusted. Yet, those people might not be voted by us but by the majority in the whole population.

So, is it fair in the end? But who ever said that life is fair? There will always be people who are happy and those who aren't. Even in paradise, not everybody is happy because there is also unfairness. Many people also failed to notice that in achieving the fairness they pursue, they forced others to sacrifice the fairness they had.

There you have it. The law is not inherently flawless in its quest for justness, fairness, equality, autonomy, etc. It was created by people in power in a certain society, and change will only come through their or their predecessors actions. Whether public opinion can sway the actions of those in power will have to be seen in due time.

In short, the constitution the leaders agreed upon ages and ages ago, is the root of these seeming 'unfairness'. The thing that keeps us safe, prosperous and comfortable is also the one causing these little stories and the other stories that glare us in the face, but which we willfully turn a blind eye to.

Not all changes have to come though bloodshed. Some come when the time is right. Somewhere in the time ahead, there may be a group of leaders who are determined to change and eradicate this one failing of Malaysia.

Citizens of Malaysia, be you malays or non-malays, it is time to wake up, the earlier the better, and realize that the mother of all problems in Malaysia is not caused by ordinary citizens but by Umno, who have insatiable greed for money and power, and hence must divide this country by race, and rule.

It is their insatiable greed that is ruining Malaysia, including our education system and universities. The struggle in Malaysia is not between malays or non-malays, but between Umno-malays and the crony.

The current political environment does not properly and fairly engages opposition parties to debate issues of national interest.

In this age of Internet and information technology, it will be great mistake for any government not to change quickly and try to control and manipulate information to influence the people.

It is wise to empower the people with accurate, factual, meaningful and timely information so that they could use it in a globalised and competitive world.

Information has put power and influence in the ordinary people hands, and a successful country is very much depends on the distribution of timely and accurate information to its people - the western countries are good example.

Without the practise of free thinking, speech and actions, we have a huge problem to overcome the shortcoming of our students and employees. Students and eventually employees that don't know how to work around different circumstances and goals will remain just clogs in an economic machinery controlled by someone else.

And of course the government goes on pretending like they don't exist, or they are cavemen from the jungle. So much for bumis policy.

The Internet is but a reflection of real life. Racists exist in Malaysian societal structure, therefore racists will exist in the Malaysian Internet realm as well.

Oddly although, as long as the government of the day practices institutionalised racism through preferential policies, this racism won't go away. The government can't see that, and therefore Malaysia deserves what it gets.

I am a Malaysian. And stop bad-mouthing Chinese, because part of me is Chinese. If malays end up being slaves, it is their own fault. Stupid, typical malays.

First thing to be blamed is the politic which spoilt them so much that they would never learn to stand on their own 2 feet. Politic is about uniting people in a country, not just a certain race and then be racist.

Leave those comments here as reminder why the malays have to work so hard. The younger ones never had to face those sentiments and it is good that they come to grips with it.

As for harmony, there was never real harmony in Malaysia. There was tolerance - thus faked harmony, but not true acceptance which bring about true harmony.

The directions set out in the first place was wrong. We are living the consequences.

Maybe I should. But wait, I do have a life. Do I need to reconsider that? Don't think so. It is my rights anyway to live how I want to, as long as it is ethically and morally right.

This thread is just a place for discussion just like a cafe. But I see anger. I see hatred. I see unsatisfaction. And I want to see changes so that all these don't continue.

Enough said. I am drawing the line here. Focus on the topic at hand, or shut up if you don't have anything better to say but stupid stuff like emotional, blah, angry, etc.

I apologise for the language. I am tolerant of many things, but not incompetence fueled by misplaced bravado.

For those who plan to move away, pray go with all our blessings. Good luck. There is nothing to be sad about for this country does not even value you. Go and give your children a chance to breath true freedom and justice.

Don't ever thought of coming back for, there are not much pleasant things to return to, even if the government invites you back.

The Malaysia country can only attract its young and bright minds home if our national leaders seriously believe it is building an enabling social, political and economic environment for these young and bright minds to achieve their individual personal growth.

As it stands, the current environment in the country only attracts mediocre. Even the local universities, the subtle manipulation of university exams and the education system encourage mediocrity to succeed over the talented and the gifted.

Sadly, Umno ministers and politicians will never get it and they prefer not to, anyway.

Down south, our neighbour Singapore is doing its best to attract foreign talents. It is simple mathematics: Stay in Malaysia, work and slave, see other less qualified people rise above me. Go to Singapore/Australia/America, work and slave, earn promotion (if one is deserving).

Malaysia is a wonderful country. Unfortunately, corrupt, hypocrisy, racism (government sanctioned racism), and above all, a total blindness to our faults as a nation and as a people, means that only those who don't have a choice will return there.

If the government really wants to stop brain drain, be fair. Just be fair to everyone. Simple as that.

You worked overseas until you made your pile, didn't you?

In fact, that is what our Dr Mahathir advised us students to do when he gave a lecture in UK. As I remembered it, made your pile and come home. I supposed there is nothing wrong with that.

The problem is, if all these people actually come back to Malaysia and refuse to leave, Malaysia will be changed forever!

Just ask professor Gomez and professor Jomo why they left?

Things work in an extremely strange fashion back in Malaysia. Good people have to resign and good companies are not given contracts.

There is a very big push factor as in Malaysia actually pushes the best people out. Not only in government but also in business as well. The whole country works in a strange fashion, the mediocre become mighty while the good gets beaten to pulp. Even good malays get sidelined. It happens everywhere, even in your favourite Chinese primary schools.

Check out the expert return scheme and you can find out how petty the government is and how "serious" they are about attracting people back.

Maybe when the oil runs dry, things will change a little bit?
